Our Story

ALIKE was founded in 2005 with the sole mission to unite all Liberians and non-Liberians in Kitchener Waterloo Region. We aimed to preserve and pass on our national heritage and culture to our children while contributing meaningfully to economic and social development in the Canadian, Kitchener-Waterloo community.

Today ALIKE has re-invented herself into a not-for-profit organization registered under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act. As we have grown, so has our mission, vision, and values. We have shifted to focusing more on community engagements through supporting Black and visible minority youth leadership and women empowerment, nationally and internationally.

ALIKE is ready and willing to help anyone in need. We support women, less-privileged children & youth, people experiencing homelessness, orphaned children, elderly, and newcomers to our community.

Within our own community, we host women’s empowerment programs, fundraisers, community youth leadership, and adult literacy programs. We help newcomers with resume building, networking, and employment searches.

Our mission to support those in need doesn’t end at our doorstep.

Our organization is composed of a resilient group of people who have seen dark places before coming to this beautiful country that we now call home. We refuse to forget the struggles of our heritage and the needs of our people. People who we know are struggling and need our help. Using monetary donations as well as food, school items, clothing, and other services, we are able to bring some of our privileges to those less fortunate who have yet to join our loving, prosperous community here in Canada.

Working towards a better tomorrow.
